All participants must be recognized by the HOMBU, therefore the International Aikido Federation represents only the AIKIKAI school. Our teacher is Kuribayashi Takanori Shihan.

Qualifications of Instructors

International Regulations – Chapter 4

With respect to an Aikido organization with Hombu Recognition, the qualifications for instructors are as follows. The titles for instructors’ qualification are expressed in Japanese terminology.

Shihan – Shidoin – Fukushidoin

Shihan

The Hombu examines and appoints Shihan from among persons who are 6th Dan or above, and who are proficient in practice and instructing. To the appointed person, a Certificate of Appointment is awarded by the Hombu. The highest rank in Azerbaijan is currently 5th Dan. Shihan (Japanese 師範, master) is an honorary title in Japanese martial arts. In aikido, the name “Shihan” is given to the owners of the sixth and seventh dan. The degree of Shihan is preceded by the degree of Shidoin, who is a master of 4th Dan and above. “Fukushidoin”, “Shidoin” and “Shihan” are a kind of instructor’s degree similar to the scientific titles “associate professor” and “professor”, and the concept of “Dan” is closer to a scientific degree (“master”, “candidate”, “doctor of sciences”). The degree of instructor is usually given to the head of the department (division) in accordance with their specialties. Ordinary students, even those from 1st Dan they do not have such degrees.

Aikido practitioners who have received the Shihan degree in Azerbaijan

Currently, there is no aikido practitioner in Azerbaijani aikido who has attained the Shihan rank.
