First Generation Aikidoka

The first generation of aikido practitioners in Azerbaijan dates back to 1990-2000. During these years, 15 members of our national aikido practitioners were awarded the yudansha (black belt) degree by the Aikikai Foundation World Aikido Headquarters – Aikido Hombu Dojo. Our aikido practitioners included in this group, the first group, Farhad Alaskarov, Faig Nuriyev, Chingiz Aliyev, Gabil Allahverdiyev, Bakhtiyar Zeynalov and Siyavush Babayev, were certified by Kenji Kumagai Shihan in Istanbul in 1996. The second group, Chingiz Aliyev, Emil Mammadov, Emil Guliyev and Ilgar Novruzov, were certified by Nabuyoshi Tamura Shihan in St. Petersburg in June 1998. The third group, Farid Islamov, was certified by Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan in St. Petersburg in June 1999. The fourth group, Aziz Hajiyev, Elnur Nematov and Sahib Zulfugarov, were certified by Nabi Vural Sensei in Baku in December 1999 on behalf of Nabuyoshi Tamura Shihan. The fifth group is Ilham Guliyev. The certification was conducted in Saint Petersburg in June 2000 by Seiji Sugano Shihan on behalf of Nabuyoshi Tamura Shihan.

Farhad Alasgarov Sensei

The founder of Aikido in Azerbaijan is Sensei Farhad Alasgarov. In the early 1990s, Sensei Farhad Alasgarov established the first Aikido Dojo in Azerbaijan in Baku and began teaching. Sensei Farhad Alasgarov was immediately awarded the 2nd Dan as the leader of the country’s Aikido. He left the membership of the Aikikai Foundation in 2011 at the 4th Dan level. Currently, he has established the national Aikido system and is operating under his own system. He is the president of the Azerbaijan Aikido Public Union (former Aikido Federation). Link

Faig Nuriyev Sensei

The second aikido player to receive the 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan is Sensei Faig Nuriyev. Sensei Faig Nuriyev is one of the first members of the staff engaged in Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1992. Sensei Faig Nuriyev holds the 3rd Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. In addition, as our first generation aikido player, he holds the 7th Dan Honorary National Aikido rank. Currently, he is the president of the Aikikai Foundation Azerbaijan Aikido Headquarters and the chairman of the high Dan degree examination commission. Link

Yudansha Chingiz Aliyev

Chingiz Aliyev is the third Aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Chingiz Aliyev was one of the first members of the Aikido team in Azerbaijan in early 1992. Chingiz Aliyev holds the 1st Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He currently lives in the United States and practices Aikido and Aiki Jitsu. Link

Gabil Allahverdiyev Sensei

Sensei Gabil Allahverdiyev is the fourth Aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Gabil Allahverdiyev was one of the first members of the Aikido team in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Gabil Allahverdiyev was a 4th Dan member of the Aikikai Foundation. Sensei Gabil Allahverdiyev passed away in late 2025.

Bakhtiyar Zeynalov Sensei

Sensei Bakhtiyar Zeynalov is the fifth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Bakhtiyar Zeynalov is one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Bakhtiyar Zeynalov holds the 4th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He is currently the chairman and chief instructor of the Mugenryu Kobudo Sports Club Public Union. Link

Siyavush Babayev Sensei

Sensei Siyavush Babayev is the sixth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Siyavush Babayev was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Siyavush Babayev, while holding the 3rd Dan rank of the Aikikay Foundation, ended his aikido practice in late 2015. He was the director and technical director of Aikikan Martial Arts Club LLC. Emil Mammadov Sensei

Sensei Emil Mammadov is the seventh of the aikido practitioners who received 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Emil Mammadov is one of the first members of the staff who practiced Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Emil Mammadov holds the 3rd Dan rank of the Aikikay Foundation. In addition, as our first generation aikido practitioner, he holds the 7th Dan Honorary National Aikido rank. Chingiz Aliyev Sensei

Sensei Chingiz Aliyev is the eighth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Chingiz Aliyev was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Chingiz Aliyev was in the 4th Dan rank of the Aikikay Foundation. Sensei Chingiz Aliyev ended his aikido practice at the end of 2025 due to age and health. He served as the honorary chairman of our organization.

Emil Guliyev Sensei

Sensei Emil Guliyev is the ninth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Emil Guliyev was one of the first members of the Aikido staff in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Emil Guliyev was a 2nd Dan of the Aikikai Foundation. He stopped practicing aikido in late 2006. He was the director and chief instructor of Aikikan Martial Arts Club LLC. Link

Yudansha Ilgar Novruzov

Ilgar Novruzov is the tenth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Ilgar Novruzov was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Ilgar Novruzov was a 1st Dan member of the Aikikai Foundation. He ended his aikido practice at the end of 2011. He worked as an instructor in the former Aikido Federation.

Yudansha Farid Islamov

Farid Islamov is the eleventh aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Farid Islamov was one of the first members of the Aikido staff in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Farid Islamov was a 1st Dan member of the Aikikai Foundation. He stopped practicing aikido in late 2001. He was a member of the former Aikido Federation.

Aziz Hajıyev Sensei

The twelfth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan is Sensei Aziz Hajiyev. Sensei Aziz Hajiyev. He was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sensei Aziz Hajiyev was in the 3rd Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He ended his aikido practice in late 2013. He supported the establishment of the “Katana Aikido Sports Club” Public Union.

Yudansha Sahib Mammadov

Sahib Mammadov is the thirteenth aikido practitioner to have achieved 1st Dan in the first 10 years of Aikido in Azerbaijan. Sahib Mammadov was one of the first members of the Aikido staff in Azerbaijan in early 1994. Sahib Mammadov was a 1st Dan member of the Aikikai Foundation. He stopped practicing Aikido in late 2002. He was a member of the former Aikido Federation. Link

Elnur Nematov Sensei

Sensei Elnur Nematov is the fourteenth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Elnur Nematov was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1995. Sensei Elnur Nematov holds the 5th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He is currently the vice chairman and technical director of our organization. Link

Ilham Guliyev Sensei

Sensei Ilham Guliyev is the fifteenth Aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the first 10 years in Azerbaijan. Sensei Ilham Guliyev was one of the first members of the Aikido team in Azerbaijan in early 1995. Sensei Ilham Guliyev holds the 6th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He is currently the chairman and founder of our organization. Link

SECOND GENERATION AIKIDOKAS

The second generation of aikido practitioners in Azerbaijan dates back to the period 2000-2010. They received the rank of yudansha in 2004. During these years, our national aikido practitioners were awarded the rank of yudansha (black belt) and membership in the Aikikai Foundation’s Aikido World Headquarters – Aikido Hombu Dojo. Members of this group began practicing aikido in 1997. Arzu Mikailov and Amrakh Abdullayev, members of this group, received their yuudansha in 2004 from Yusuf Akyurt Sensei in Baku on behalf of Kenji Kumagai Shihan. Ruslan Mamedov received his yuudansha from Yoshimitsu Yamada in St. Petersburg. Ramina Yusifov, Elman Israfilov, Rauf Talyshinsky, and Namig Boyukzade received their yuudansha from Nabi Vural Sensei in Baku on behalf of Nabuyoshi Tamura Shihan. Emil Gurbanov achieved the rank of 1st Dan along with the third generation of aikido practitioners.

Ramin Yusufov SenseI

Sensei Ramin Yusifov is the sixteenth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the second 10-year period in Azerbaijan. Sensei Ramin Yusifov was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1997. Sensei Ramin Yusifov holds the 2nd Dan rank of the AikikaI Foundation. He left the AikikaI Foundation in 2011. He was a member of the former Aikido Federation. He currently practices in the Eurasian Aikido Style. Link

Arzu Mikayilov SenseI

Sensei Arzu Mikayilov is the seventeenth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in the second 10-year period in Azerbaijan. Sensei Arzu Mikayilov was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1997. Sensei Arzu Mikayilov holds the 5th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He is currently the 1st vice chairman and founder of our organization. Link

Yudansha Amrah Abdullayev

Amrah Abdullayev is the eighteenth aikido practitioner in Azerbaijan to receive the rank of 1st Dan in the second decade. He was one of the first members of the team to begin practicing aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1997. He holds the rank of 1st Dan from the Aikikai Foundation. He retired from aikido in 2007. 

Yudansha Elman Israfilov

Elman Israfilov is the eighteenth aikido practitioner in Azerbaijan to receive 1st Dan in the second 10-year period. Elman Israfilov was one of the first members of the Aikido team in Azerbaijan in early 1997. Elman Israfilov holds the 2nd Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. He was a former member of the Aikido Federation. He currently practices in the Eurasian Aikido Style. Link

Yudansha Rauf Talyshinsky

Rauf Talyshinsky is the twenty-first aikidoka to receive 1st Dan in the second decade of Azerbaijan’s existence. He was one of the first members of the team to begin practicing aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1997. He holds 1st Dan from the Aikikai Foundation and is a former member of the Aikido Federation.

Yudansha Namig Boyukzade

Namig Boyukzade is the twentieth aikidoka to receive 1st Dan in the second decade of aikido in Azerbaijan. He was one of the first members of the aikido team in Azerbaijan in early 2005. He holds 1st Dan from the Aikikai Foundation and was a member of the Aikido Federation. He currently practices Eurasian Style Aikido.

Emil Gurbanov Sensei

Sensei Emil Gurbanov is the nineteenth Aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in Azerbaijan in the second 10-year period. Sensei Emil Gurbanov is one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1997. Sensei Emil Gurbanov holds the 4th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. Link

Ruslan Mammadov Sensei

Sensei Ruslan Mammadov is the twentieth aikido practitioner to receive 1st Dan in Azerbaijan in the second 10-year period. Sensei Ruslan Mammadov was one of the first members of the staff to practice Aikido in Azerbaijan in early 1998. Sensei Ruslan Mammadov holds the 4th Dan rank of the Aikikai Foundation. Status He is currently the chairman of the disciplinary commission of our organization. Link

The majority (99%) of Aikido practitioners whose names are registered on this page began training between 1990 and 1999.
