The of Aikido Aikikai Clubs Public Union was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan Republic on April 19, 2006. On October 1, 2011, the Aikikai Azerbaijan officially began its activities in conjunction with the Aikikai Foundation World Aikido Headquarters (AIKIKAI Hombu Dojo). The history of the Aikikai Azerbaijan began with the first visit to Azerbaijan of Shihan Kuribayashi Takanori. The Aikikai Azerbaijan is a fully-fledged Aikido organization and was created by its founder, Ilham Guliyev, to teach the martial art of Aikido in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Aikido World Headquarters. The Aikikai Azerbaijan was officially recognized as the main Aikido organization in Azerbaijan by Aikido Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba (AIKIKAI Hombu Dojo) on December 1, 2017. To be recognized by the International Aikido Federation, membership in the Aikikai Foundation World Aikido Headquarters is required.

Azerbaijan “Aikikai Aikido Clubs” Public Union was admitted to the membership of the International Aikido Federation on November 13, 2021. From this date, it has gained the status of a representative office in Azerbaijan. The Union, in accordance with the decision dated January 28, 2025, established the representative office in Azerbaijan and granted the following authority.

1. Collection of annual membership fees of the International Aikido Federation;
2. Appointment of the composition of the delegation for participation in the International Aikido Summit;
3. Selection of participants in the World Games by national delegation;
4. Selection of participants in the World Martial Arts Games by national delegation.
5. Selection of participants in the International Aikido Federation Youth Festival by national delegation.
6. Selection of participants in the International Aikido Federation Embukay event by national delegation.
7. Full management of relevant organizational work for the events.
