Aikido is a modern Japanese body of physical and spiritual practices created by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of martial arts, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as “the way of union with life energy” or “the way of attunement of the spirit.” Morihei Ueshiba’s goal was to create an art that would allow its practitioners to protect not only themselves but also their attackers from injury.
